The Comptroller of Maryland has officially launched Maryland Tax Connect for individual taxpayers, replacing iFile as Maryland’s online tax portal for individuals. Maryland Tax Connect was previously only available for Maryland businesses but has now expanded to serve individual taxpayers. It will allow individual taxpayers a free secure online portal where they can file returns, make payments, view account information and filing history, check refund status, access notices, and more all in one place.

How do I register?

You can register today! Here are the following steps:

1.    Go to their website (Maryland Tax Connect Home) and click on “sign up.” It will redirect you to another page where you can read the terms & conditions. Once read, you must check the box agreeing to these terms and conditions and complete the captcha.

2.    Once you hit next, you will then need to enter your personal information including your first and last name, proposed user ID, and contact information.

3.    On the next page, you must answer “yes,” acknowledging that you are registering as a Maryland Tax Connect user to continue. If not, you will be taken back to the previous page.

4.    You will then be notified that your registration submission has been confirmed, and a confirmation number will be provided. Please record this number for your records.

5.    You should then receive an email with instructions on how to log on and access your account. In that email, you will also be provided with a temporary password.

6.    Click on the “login,” link and you will then be redirected to the login page. Here you will enter your proposed login that you chose for your user ID and enter your temporary password.

7.    Once you are logged in, the next step in the registration process is to select and answer (3) security questions.

8.    Afterwards, you will then change your password. Enter your temporary password under “current password.” Under “New Password,” you can create your own password. It must be at least 14 characters long and contain an upper case, lower case, number and special character. You will be asked to confirm the new password. Re-enter your new password.

9.    Once the password is changed, you will then be notified that the password was changed successfully. After clicking on “continue,” you can then login with your new login information. A one-time verification code will be sent to your email. Please retrieve the one-time code and verify your account.

10. To complete your registration, you will need to link your tax account. Click on “Link Tax Account.” Then select “Link my individual income tax account.” You will then be prompted to enter your tax account information. You should have your most recent MD tax return handy to answer some tax questions.

11. After hitting next, you will then be asked again to acknowledge that you are registering as a Maryland Tax Connect user. Once you select “yes,” it will notify you that your registration is complete and that your tax account has been successfully linked. Your account information should be visible within 24 hours.
