The U.S. Treasury and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have announced a major modernization of its financial operations.
Â
Effective September 30, 2025, all federal tax payments (including taxes, estimated taxes and payroll taxes as well as all disbursements from the US government which includes refunds and Social Security benefits) must be made electronically. Paper checks will no longer be accepted by the IRS after September 30, 2025. All refunds will be issued electronically via direct deposit to a linked bank or brokerage account.
Â
The Executive Order affects every taxpayer, whether you are an individual, business, non-profit or trust.
What To Do:
Â
Individuals – Set up direct deposit to receive any payments from the federal government. Set up an online account with IRS Direct Pay (https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals) and/or set up electronic funds withdrawal during e-filing in order to make any payments to the U.S. government.
Â
Businesses, Non-Profits & Trusts - Enroll in EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System).
Â
Our team is available to assist you with this transition.
